Everyone has heard of yoga, even if not everyone has tried it. Yoga is a great way of relaxing and getting rid of all the anxiety we accumulate during those long hard days at work. And, most importantly, it is something that everyone can do.
If you're thinking yoga is all about difficult positions or that you'll be twisted like a hand-tossed pretzel, you shouldn't worry about it, because that's not at all what yoga is all about. In fact, with yoga you can perform any movement that you are able to perform and that would help you relax, rather than sitting in difficult poses and doing magic incantations.
Yoga is an ancient practice, that has been performed by people of various cultures for thousands of years. It has roots in the Asian tradition, and it is linked to philosophy and history. It is used not only for relaxation and steep meditation, but also for getting energy and improving tonus.
With yoga, there are three very simple aspects you need to focus on: your breathing, your sitting and your standing positions. Basically, you will not do more than you usually do, but you will focus more on those simple activities.
The life energy central to yoga practice is the "chi," which in Chinese literally means "breath". Your goal is to unblock this force, allowing it to flow through your energy pathways and to rejuvenate you.
The chi moves through your body to chakras - which are the areas of power reserves in your body that you can release by yoga exercises. There are yoga breathing techniques you can practice anywhere and at any time, such as the so-called right-nostril breathing for example. This technique will help you achieve great results very quickly.
It consists in closing your left nostril completely using the fingers on your right hand. While you are doing this, your mind must be focused on your breath, and you must continue the exercise for five or ten minutes.
This breathing method will help activate an energy channel that generates heat and activity in your system, thus helping you eliminate fatigue and depression and unblock your chi.
Seated yoga postures can also increase your energy level. The basic yoga body positions can help you stretch your muscles, while working your lungs and allowing for you s body functions to improve. Sitting with your legs straight in front of you and your hands flat on the floor at your hips will definitely give you a boost up.
You should give it a try for about five minutes, and you will soon discover the benefits it brings. Yoga using seated postures is so effective that it is even recommended for the elderly and disabled. This yoga variation targets the energy-draining symptoms of fatigue, but also multiple sclerosis and depression.
